VERSE AND THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Ephesians 3:14-21
14For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, 16that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, 17that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height—19to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.20Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, 21to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
Burkina Faso villagers. Strangers to us. We have never met them, and never imagined ever meeting them….that is, until God called us to go to them. Among those in these villages are men and women and children whom the Lord is calling to Himself. They will hear the words of life that we are going to tell them and will receive these words with joy. New, eternal, royal life is about to be in their lives. The next time that we have the joy of being with them will likely be when we are before the throne of God together on that first and all-glorious day. Won’t that be exciting! We will meet them as villagers, and we will leave them as brothers and sisters of ours in God’s royal family.
What should be our heart for them? What do we desire for these who are about to come to new life in Christ? What should be our prayer, even at this time, for them? The heart of Paul for the Ephesians – mere strange villagers when he first met them, but dear brothers and sisters in God’ family when he left – should be the heart that we have as well. As we think of these dear new saints that we will be leaving in Burkina Faso, let us begin as a team to pray (as Paul did for the Ephesians):
1) that God would“strengthen them with might through his Spirit in their inner man”
2) that “Christ may dwell in their hearts through faith”
3) that they would be “rooted and grounded in love”
4) that they “may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height of the love of Christ for them, and
5) that they “would be filled with all the fullness of God”.
Village strangers to us now …but in a few weeks from now, dear brothers and sisters that we will join one day before the Throne. Following Paul’s example, let us begin, even now, to pray such intercessory prayers for these dear family members!
Bowing to the Father,
